MANIAC invites you to celebrate one year of experiment and exhibitions in Downtown Oakland marking one year and formally opening its second season. In celebration, MANIAC presents an exhibition of material idea rather than art from a roster of emerging artists making art now. The idea, inspired by Artforum's Top ten list is in step with a visual top ten list of what is inspiring each participating artist now in art making, and allows a physical view into what symbols, signs, and tangible miscellany is surfacing in the contemporary art world before its set forth into new art, becoming tomorrows art world trends.
The theme of New Alternativity brings forth MANIAC’s distinct collaborative platform that focuses primarily on emerging artists working now, producing exhibitions that focus on issues of contemporary curation, exhibition design, and fostering a continued culture of fine arts in the Bay Area.
Working with emerging artists in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, MANIAC opened the Spring of 2008 with a trajectory to provide an independent alternative space for the large emerging art base in the Bay Area specifically, while producing equally potent curatorial platforms that current the happenings in the greater contemporary art world today.
